Thesis Days | Summer 2008

Summer Breeze by Hotnixx

Thesis days are some what the icing on the cake of our college days. The times when you seldom see your mom and dad because you often have night outs with your group mates, making report, doing rush presentation for the following day and the never ending debates with your group mates, thesis mates or whatever you call it.

During my heydays with my groupmates/thesismates/friends, it was nuts. At first you cant get along with everyone, the new ones in the group, the lazy ones and ofcourse those perfectionists, but as time goes on, everyone has a purpose in the group. There was a time when two of my friends got at it and punched each other (Carlos & Abi), it was crazy, me and Bong had a difficult time separating the two knuckle heads. But eventually we did. After that, there was only silence in the room, I'm thinking that our thesis might be in jeopardy because the group was falling apart. We decided to go out and grab a snack at the middle of the night, as the heads getting cooler we brought some SMB on our way back, and as early as we thought, the two said their sorries to each other. It was the start of a good relationship in the group, now all knows where to put their asses in the animal kingdom. The following day was all laughter and criticism, Carlos went to school with a black eye and Abi had a broken eye glasses.

Delays were part of the thesis, late submission of reports, revisions and rescheduling of defense. As for us, we were far behind from the other groups. Almost all of us in the group are going to stay for another semester in school to take on some minor subjects, so our adviser told us that we should carry on our thesis unto the next semester, because we are not yet in a hurry naman, we are not going to march and graduate the coming April. So all summer long, we took the burden, we went to PNOC Commonwealth near the biggest Iglesia ni Christo everyday, but most of the time its just me and Abi. We went there for the rest of the summer making briquettes, testing them for dangerous toxic contents and some other things. That was the hottest summer ever, going to school afterwards to make a report even though we are not enrolled.

Behind those hard work and sleepless nights during thesis, it was fun though. I never imagined that I was going to be close with some of them, because I never thought so. I remember what my older sister told me when theres still no grouping on our thesis subject, "make the right decision on choosing your thesis mates, you might want to choose the ones you are closest with, but you can never tell until the end of your thesis days, you might be closest to the ones you thought you never will." Well, she was right I never thought that me, Bong and Abi would be close with Carlos whom we thought was a snob at the very first time.

I can still remember the endless overnights, at Abi's, Carlos' and most of the time Bong's place. Those bottles we popped after a long day, we just sat around a grill and started cooking street foods. The time when we went to UP LB, Abi had a bad stomach and wanted to poop everywhere, he even insisted to eat dinuguan even though he had LBM. The back an' fort times at PNOC The Fort, and having lunch with beer to keep us in the mood. Barbq birthday at Carlos and tuna party at Bong's, it was crazy. Nights when there were so much tense in the air, it was bananas. And to top the most, it was the first time ever that we wished there were classes despite a typhoon, because that was the schedule of our defense and we prepared for it so much we havent slept the night before. We prayed that there were classes.

That would be the unbelievable days of my life. It was working and having fun at the same time, THESIS DAYS were the damn DAYS!
